A hole in the oil painting, missing gold leaf on the picture frame, crumbling stucco ornaments on the walls, damaged carvings or torn upholstered furniture – in time-honoured walls there is always something to repair, restore and renovate. From 9 to 12. May 2024, visitors can look over the shoulder of the restorers of Hohenzollern Castle and learn interesting facts about old and special craft techniques. A total of 8 different trades will present themselves:
Reconstruction of historical materials
Peggy Wunderlich and Torsten Bäz from the Eschke silk manufactory specialize in the faithful reproduction of historical fabrics. Since there are often no more precise templates, the experts work on the historical context of epoch, contemporary design and material as well as with elaborate research on yarn fineness, colors and ornaments as well as with technological experience in the best possible way. On partially listed machines, they weave fine silk fabrics and heavy style furniture fabrics in original fidelity.
